Two year old Sujith Wilson of Tamil Nadu died after being stuck in a borewell for 80 hours.  The National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) took out his decomposed body from the borewell.

On the 25th of October, Sujith Wilson fell into a borewell in Nadukattupatti, Tiruchirappalli district in Chennai, Tamil Nadu.

He was playing near his house around 5:30 P.M., during which, he slipped into the borewell.  The child was stuck 100 feet deep since the 25th of October.

The NDRF team rescued him after 80 hours during the early hours of the 29th of October and declared him dead.  The body of the two year old child had started decomposing inside the borewell.

According to sources, the child died due to lack of food and water for almost three days in the deep borewell.  His body was sent for an autopsy.

J. Radhakrishnan, the Principal Secretary of the Transport Department and the Relief Commissioner, addressed the media and said, “The 2 year old boy’s body is now in a decomposed state. We tried our best to rescue him but unfortunately foul smell has started coming from the borewell in which the child had fallen. The digging process has been stopped.”

On the 28th of October, Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed his concern to the family and said, “My prayers are with the young and brave Sujith Wilson. Spoke to Chief Minister Edappadi K. Palaniswami regarding the rescue efforts underway to save Sujith. Every effort is being made to ensure that he is safe.”

Many Twitter users conveyed their condolences to Sujith’s family.  While many blamed the Government for delaying the rescue operation, several others urged parents across the Country to keep an eye on their children and make sure this is the last such incident in India.
