Supreme Court Grants Interim Bail To Journalist Arnab Goswami In 2018 Suicide Case

The Supreme Court (SC) on the 11th of November, granted bail to Arnab Goswami, the Editor in Chief of Republic TV in the 2018 suicide abetment case. 

In 2018, Anvay Naik, a 53 year old interior designer and his mother, Kumud Naik, committed suicide over non payment of dues from Republic TV.

The SC bench headed by Justice Chandrachud, Nitish Sarda and Parveen Rajesh Singh said Arnab Goswami should be released on interim bail on a bond of Rs.50,000 each.

The Apex Court bench also directed the Commissioner of Police (CP) to ensure the order is followed immediately. The bench further directed the three accused to not tamper with evidences related to the 2018 suicide abetment case and cooperate with the investigation

The case was heard in the SC after a filed petition by Mr. Goswami.

On the 9th of November, the Bombay High Court dismissed his petition for interim bail in the 2018 abetment to the suicide case.

Disappointed with the judgement of the Bombay High Court, the Editor in Chief of Republic TV Arnab Goswami, on the 10th of November, moved the Supreme Court.

The 47 year old journalist Arnab Goswami who is on a 14 day remand by a local Alibaug Court, was at a local school designated as a Novel Coronavirus or COVID-19 centre for the Alibaug prison. Later, on the 9th of November, he was shifted to the Taloja jail in Navi Mumbai.

However, on the 11th of November, Mr. Goswami was released as per the SC orders.
