Shahista Parveen, Tabrez Ansari’s wife, threatened to kill herself if the Jharkhand Police does not charge the accused responsible for Tabrez’s death with murder.

Tabrez Ansari, 24 years old, died due to the vigilantism of a mob in Jamshedpur.  Speaking about the murder charges against the accused being dropped, Shahista said, “The whole world saw my husband’s murder. Still, my husband’s murderers are being saved by the district administration. If the murder charges are not reinstated against the killers, I will commit suicide outside the DC office.”

Parveen’s statement came after her recent meeting with the District Collector (DC) and the Superintendent of Police (SP) of Ranchi.  Shahista demanded the charges against the accused be changed from Section 304 (culpable homicide) to Section 302 (Murder) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC.)

Recently, a high level committee of the Heads of Departments (HoDs) of the Mahatma Gandhi Memorial (MGM) Medical College, Jamshedpur revealed a new medical report of Tabrez Ansari.  According to the new report, Tabrez eventually died due to cardiac arrest, but the cardiac arrest happened due to the severe injuries and skull fracture he suffered due to the mob tying him up and beating him for 7 long hours.

Despite the medical report of the HoDs of the MGM Medical College, Jamshedpur, the Jharkhand Police did not consider it murder and charged the accused under Section 304, which provides less punishment compared to Section 302 of the IPC.  According to Section 304, the accused would be jailed for 10 years or be given life imprisonment, whereas under Section 302, the punishment would be life imprisonment or death penalty.

The wife of the victim, accompanied by her father in law and family, went to meet the DC and the SP and demanded murder charges be filed against the accused.

The couple got married two months before Tabrez’s death.  Parveen even had a miscarriage due to news about her husband’s death.

The Jharkhand Police are still investigating the Tabrez Ansari case and arrested 11 out of the 13 who were responsible for his death.

Stay tuned for further updates.
