Taj Mahal: Grave of Mughal Emperor Shah Jahan Open For Public

Agra: To mark the birth anniversary of Mughal Emperor Shah Jahan, the graves of the royal couple at Taj Mahal are opened for the public. To make the celebrations grand, an 810 long multi-colour chadar, representing different religions will be offered on the grave of the emperor.
The entry for the Worlds Wonder will be free for three days. It will be the 361th year celebration which will start with the washing of the emperor and queen Mumtaz Mahal’s graves.

Every year Khuddam-e-roza (traditional caretakers of the Taj) committee offers a very long multi-colour chadar, representing different faiths of the country, on the grave of Mughal emperor Shah Jahan during Urs (birth anniversary).
According to reports, the Urs will be marked by various rituals that include ‘gusl ki rasm’ (bathing of the graves), followed by ‘sandal ki rasm’ (sandal ceremony), ‘gul ki rasam’( flower ceremony) ‘chadar poshi’ (ceremonial laying of chadar) and later a qawwali programme.
