Maharashtra Government Finally Authorized The New Versova Bandra Sea Link

On Monday, the Maharashtra Government’s Administration gave approval for an extension of the Bandra Worli Sea Link. The State Cabinet Committee on Infrastructure (SCCI) had cleared the project for approval in 2009. The sea link will connect South Mumbai to the Western suburbs through a series of roads and tunnels.

The project is named Versova Bandra Sea Link (VBSL) and will cost around Rs. 7,502 crores. The Versova Bandra Sea Link is estimated to be 17.17 Km long. The Maharashtra Government approved the project plan with a height of 900 meters from the coastline.

The Sea Link will connect Bandra, Otters Club, Juhu Link Road and Versova Link Road. Toll plazas will be installed at Bandra, Carter Road, Juhu Koliwada and at Nana Nani Park.

Two separate contractors for toll collection and repairs and maintenance of the VBSL will be appointed by the Maharashtra State Road Development Corporation (MSRDC.)

Although the SCCI cleared the VBSL in 2009 it took the Government a total of 8 years to authorize the project.
