The Tamil Nadu Government on the 12th of November, announced to postpone the reopening of schools in the State.

Initially the State Government announced to reopen schools from the 16th of November for classes 9 to 12.

However, now schools would remain closed until further notice.

The State Government said colleges would be open from the 2nd for research scholars and final year postgraduate students of science and technology streams.

An official release regarding the same was issued. The statement read, “The opening of colleges for all other courses will be announced later.”

The decision to postpone the reopening of schools was taken after a discussion with parents of students studying in private and government colleges.

Parents of some schools wanted the institutions to reopen, but others were against such a move in the wake of the Novel Coronavirus or COVID-19 pandemic.

The release further said, “The order on reopening schools from November 16 for classes 9-12 is cancelled. An announcement on reopening schools will be made later based on the situation.”

Meanwhile, Tamil Nadu reported 7,50,409 positive cases, of which 7,20,339 are recovered cases, 18,655 active cases and 11,415 deceased.
