In the early hours of the 14th of June, Wednesday, the Enforcement Directorate (ED) has arrested Mr. V. Senthil Balaji, the Tamil Nadu Electricity Minister. 

After the arrest the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) leader Mr. V. Senthil Balaji was taken for medical checkup, where he started crying inconsolable.  He complained of severe chest pain and was seen breaking down before the ED officials.  The visuals of the dramatic scene outside Omandurar Government Hospital, in Chennai, went viral on social media.

It is to be noted, the arrest of Mr. V. Senthil Balaji came after the ED conducted raids and searched the premises of his residence on the 13th of June, Tuesday.  After the massive search, the ED seized documents and arrested Mr. V. Senthil Balaji and informed him about his arrest.  He has been arrested under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA) in the wee hours of Wednesday.

Protestors and supporters of Mr. V. Senthil Balaji gathered outside the hospital.  To control the situation, the Chennai Police and the Rapid Action Force teams were deployed.

Meanwhile, After the Electricity Minister’s arrest, Mr. M.K. Stalin, the Tamil Nadu Chief Minister, slammed the ED for the arrest.  He arrived at the hospital and met Mr. V. Senthil Balaji.   Mr. M.K. Stalin, the DMK supremo said despite co operating with the probe agency, Senthil Balaji was pressurised, which triggered the chest pain. 

The DMK also said they would fight the arrest legally and slammed the Central Probing Agency, ED.
