On the 10th of February, Friday, the Central Government elevated two more high court judges to the Supreme Court (SC,) taking the total strength to 34.
According to sources, Justice Rajesh Bindal, currently, the Chief Justice of Allahabad High Court and Justice Aravind Kumar, the Chief Justice of Gujarat High Court are the new Supreme Court judges. Mr. Kiren Rijiju, the Union Law Minister, took to Twitter and confirmed the updates. “As per the provisions under the Constitution of India, Hon’ble President of India has appointed the following Chief Justices of High Courts as Judges of the Supreme Court. My best to them: Rajesh Bindal, Chief Justice, Allahabad HC and Aravind Kumar, Chief Justice, Gujarat HC,” tweeted Mr. Kiren Rijiju.
On the 31st of January, the Supreme Court collegium recommended the names of Justice Rajesh Bindal and Justice Aravind Kumar to the Central Government. Later, on the 9th of February, Ms. Droupadi Murmu, the President of India, took the decisions and approved the appointment of the two HC judges.
