Two Indian naval officers died, today, at the base of the Southern Naval Command, in Kochi.

The deceased were identified as Naveen and Ajeet Singh, junior commissioned officers of the Aviation Electrical Branch. Naveen was from Bhiwani, Haryana and joined the Indian Navy in 2008. Ajeet Singh hailed from Bharatpur, Rajasthan and became a part of the naval force in 2009.

The incident took place around 10:00 A.M., today, when a hangar door of the aircraft Indian Naval Air Squadron 322 fell on the officers and led to their deaths at Naval Air Station, INS Garuda, Kochi.

The Defence Public Relation Unit (PRO) released a statement, “The sliding hangar door dislodged from its supporting rails above and fell on top of the two sailors who were passing by. Both the sailors were rushed in a critically injured state to the naval hospital, INHS Sanjivani, where despite best efforts of the doctors to resuscitate them, they succumbed to their injuries.”

The reason behind the collapse of the door is still unknown.

The Board of Inquiry of the Naval Air Station launched an investigation in order to find out the reason behind the incident.
