The Union Budget 2023-2024 started on the 31st of January, Tuesday. The Union Budget started with the address of Ms. Droupadi Murmu, the President of India.
It is to be noted, Ms. Droupadi Murmu, the President of India, addresses members of both Houses in the Parliament’s Central Hall on the first day of the Parliament session.
During the addressing, Ms. Droupadi Murmu said, “By 2047, we have to build a nation that will be connected to the pride of the past and which will have all the golden chapters of modernity. We have to build an India that will be ‘aatmanirbhar’ and capable to fulfill its humanitarian duties.” She further applauded the Central Government for its Jal Jeevan Mission. She said, “About 11 crore families have been connected with piped water supply in three years under the Jal Jeevan Mission. Poor families are getting the maximum benefit from this.”
After Ms. Droupadi Murmu, the Parliament would witness a speech from Mr. Narendra Modi, the Prime Minister of India. In addition, on the 1st of February, Wednesday, Ms. Nirmala Sitharaman, the Union Finance Minister, is scheduled to present the 2023-2024 Union Budget.
The Union Budget Session is scheduled to be held in two phases, the first phase is set to be held between the 31st of January to the 13th of February. The second phase is scheduled to begin from the 13th of March to the 6th of April.
Notably, ahead of the 2024 General elections, this is the last Budget session, which is being held under the leadership of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) led Central Government.
