The Central Government, on the 30th of December, decided to extend the ongoing suspension on flights from the United Kingdom (U.K.)

The decision was taken by the Union Civil Aviation Ministry, over the spread of the new strain of the Novel Coronavirus or COVID-19 found in the U.K.

Initially, the suspension of international flights to U.K., and vice versa was till the 31st of December. However, with the 20 new cases of the new strain of COVID-19, the Union Ministry extended the ban till the 7th of January 2021.

Hardeep Singh Puri, the Union Civil Aviation Minister, took to Twitter and said, “Decision has been taken to extend the temporary suspension of flights to & from the UK till 7 January 2021.” His tweet further read, “Thereafter strictly regulated resumption will take place for which details will be announced shortly.”

The move came a day after Mr. Puri hinted to an extension on the ongoing ban.

On the 29th of December, addressing the media, Mr. Puri said, “I foresee a slight extension of the temporary suspension because we are getting a fuller picture of what has happened. I don’t expect the extension to be a long or indefinite extension.”

Meanwhile, the Union Government urged people of India to be cautious as India has 20 cases of the new strain of COVID-19.

The Union Health Ministry is taking all the possible measures to control the spread of the new COVID-19 mutant variant, which is 70 % dangerous in transmission.
