On the 20th of February, Sunday, Uttar Pradesh and Punjab conducted the third phase and single-phase assembly elections, respectively. The polling in both the states started at 8:00 A.M., which is to continue till 6:00 P.M.

Uttar Pradesh:

In the Uttar Pradesh Assembly elections the third phase, the State conducted voting for 59 assembly seats in 16 districts.  The voting is underway.

As many as 2.15 crore people are eligible to cast their votes and decide the fate of 629 candidates in the fray.  The Election Commission of India (ECI) deployed a police force at polling stations to ensure smooth and peaceful polls.

Notably, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP,) the Indian National Congress, the All India Majlis e Itthadul Muslimeen (AIMIM), and the Samajwadi Party (SP) are in the fray for major seats like Hathras, Lalitpur, and Kanpur Nagar. Meanwhile, over 21% voters turnout was reported till 11:00 A.M.

Punjab:

Punjab Assembly elections are underway on February 20. The Election Commission confirmed smooth polling, which started at 8:00 A.M.with over 20% voters turnout till 11:00 A.M.

Notably, 1,304 candidates are in the fray to contest 117 Assembly seats. The BJP-SAD and Amarinder Singh’s new party in the alliance are contesting against the Congress and AAP, to win the 2022 elections. 2.14 crore voters will vote at 24,689 polling-stations.
