HIGH COURT DISMISSES PIL ON JAYALALITHA’S HEALTH REPORT!

Stating that PIL should not be used for “political purposes”, the Madras High Court dismissed it on Thursday. The PIL requested for a detailed report from the government on the health of Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa, undergoing treatment at a hospital.

The first bench headed Chief Justice Sanjay Kishan Kaul observed, “This forum should not be used for political purposes and it is publicity interest litigation.”

The petitioner of the PIL “Traffic” Ramaswamy, is a social activist, who stated and filed for a PIL as he thought the people of Tamil Nadu were curious to know about the health condition of their minister Jayalalithaa. The PIL also sought releasing of photographs of the meeting Jayalalithaa is said to have had with her cabinet colleagues and officials in the hospital.

The 68-year-old AIADMK leader was admitted to the Apollo Hospital after she complained of fever and dehydration on September 22.
