Five time World Champion Mary Kom will not be part of the Indian contingent in Rio Olympics 2016. Chairman of AIBA and the ad-hoc committee, Kishen Narsi, on Thursday confirmed that Indian boxer has failed to secure a berth and will not be given the wildcard to participate in the Olympics.

Notably, India had more than eight boxers in the previous two Games. Mary could not book an Olympic ticket after losing in the second round of the World Championships last month. “Its decision made is by the International Olympic Committee that nations which has not had more than eight boxers in the last two games will be granted the card. India had eight boxers in London itself with seven men and Mary Kom among the pugilists qualifying,” Nasri  said.

“I have been duly informed that I won’t be getting a wildcard for the Olympics. It is heartbreaking but it is something which I had no control over. I have to accept this decision but I am not quitting the sport right now. I will continue to compete till I am feeling fit and I think I am fit,” Mary Kom told PTI.
