Nike has now introduced the Nike Hijab for Female Muslim Athletes. The company said that the Nike Pro-Hijab has been under development for a year. The hijab was designed by taking inputs from the athletes and Zahra Lari, a figure skater tested this out.

Made from light stretchy fabric, the hijab is a pull on and includes tiny holes to aid easy breathing. Also, the elongated back will not untuck in middle of the sport. The Hijab is being introduced in three colors, obsidian, black and vast gray. The Beaverton-based company said the hijab will be up for sale next year.

Zahra Lari, who is expecting to participate in the next year’s Winter Olympics at Pyeongchang, South Korea, took to Instagram to post pictures of herself with a hijab and wrote, ‘Can’t Believe this is finally here’. The skater, originally from Abu Dhabi represents the United Arab Emirates. In the Rio Olympics last year, Ibtihaj Muhammad of New York was the first Muslim-American woman to compete wearing a hijab from the United States Of America. She won a bronze medal in fencing.

The first event where women wore headscarves was during FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup in 2016 October in Jordan. The Muslim players sported headscarves while playing soccer. The Soccer international governing body officially lifted the ban on head scarves and coverings in recognition of Muslim and Sikh players.
Well, this initiative only proves that Sport is not partial to any religion, caste or nationality and all are equal on the ground.
