On the 7th of July, the Hyderabad Police registered a case against Mohammed Majid Hussain, the former Mayor of the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC.) 

According to sources, Mr. Majid Hussain and three others were booked for allegedly assaulting policemen. The police said, the All India Majlis e Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM) member along with Mr. Naseeruddin, Mr. Ahmed and Mr. Akbar allegedly assaulted a few police officials in a land dispute. The people allegedly tried to enter the land located in Film Nagar, which is a disputed site, when Nikhil Reddy, the owner of the land resisted, they started arguing and fighting. Sources said that Nikhil Reddy claimed that he had purchased land measuring 850 square yards from Jubilee Hills co operative housing society while Majid Hussain’s followers claimed that they got it from someone named Mr. Haneef.

Meanwhile, on receiving the information, a team of Banjara Hills Police led by Inspector Shiva Chandra and others reached the spot. In the meantime Majid Hussain and his followers started arguing with police about their presence at the spot leading to a heated argument and assault causing obstruction for the police discharging their duties.

Soon, the video of the former GHMC Mayor threatening the police went viral across social media platforms, resulting in a registered case.

It is to be noted, the Hyderabad Police registered a suo moto case under Section353 (Assaulting a public servant) and Section 506 (Intimidation) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC.)

As of now, the Hyderabad Police have registered two cases related to land issue and an investigation is underway.
