On the 17th of September 1948, Hyderabad was officially included in India, marking the day as the Telangana Liberation Day.
However, the day is not celebrated by the ruling Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) officially in the Telugu State. The major reason for not celebrating the day statewide is said to be the alliance with the All India Majlis e Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM.)
Therefore, unlike Maharashtra, Kerala and other regions which got freedom from the Nizams, the State of Telangana does not celebrate the day.
However, this year, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) decided to celebrate the day on a grand scale. For the event, Mr. Amit Shah, the Union Home Minister, would visit Telangana and address a public meeting. During the public meeting, scheduled in Huzurabad, Mr. Amit Shah would pitch the Telangana Liberation Day celebration to the K. Chandrashekar Rao Government.
Mr. Amit Shah took to Twitter and also extended greetings of the Telangana Liberation Day. His tweet read, “Greetings to the people of Telangana and the Marathwada region on #HyderabadLiberationDay. On this historic day, I bow to the brave martyrs who fought against the cruelties of Razakars and Nizams. Nation will always remain indebted for their supreme sacrifices.”
The decision of Mr. Amit Shah’s visit to Telangana on the Liberation Day is said to be a strategy to intensify the Huzurabad Assembly campaign.
Meanwhile, to mark the significance of the day, the BJP unit of Telangana, is scheduled to conduct a few events.
