The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) criticised the Telangana Government led by the Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) in the Taliban-Afghanistan row.

On the 20th of August, the BJP said, the TRS along with the All India Majlis e Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM) is in support of the Taliban. Mr. P. Muralidhar Rao, a BJP leader said, “Telangana Government has completely aligned with All India Majilis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen to support the Taliban in Afghanistan. This will have negative consequences in Telangana.”

In addition, the BJP leader said the State Government to be a “democratic deficit” State. Mr. Muralidhar Rao said, the K. Chandrashekar Rao Government is failing to fulfill its promise of growth and development of the people of Telangana. The ruling Government is failing to implement any welfare schemes and activities for the people effectively.

Terming the 7 years governance of the TRS as a failure, Mr. Muralidhar Rao said, “Telangana was misruled for 7 years by Chief Minister Mr. K. Chandrashekhar Rao. People in Telangana are facing a lot of problems. He has turned Telangana into a democratic deficit state and has also failed to implement welfare programmes in the state. He said more than 1,90,000 posts are vacant and not recruiting. Also, in terms of irrigation, the southern parts of Telangana are facing problems.”

The BJP leader also highlighted the recently launched Praja Aashirvaad Yatra by the Union Home Minister of the State, Mr. G. Kishan Reddy. During the three day Praja Ashirvaad Yatra, Mr. Reddy would create awareness about the welfare schemes launched by the Central Government for the citizens of Telangana. Mr. Muralidhar Rao said, “With this government, Telangana has witnessed no progress. This will be our message to people in the Padayatra (Praja Ashirvaad Yatra.)”

The Yatra came at a time when the State is set to conduct the Huzurabad Assembly by election. All the political parties are mobilising their strength and strategies to gain attention of people, especially in Huzurabad.

The official notification of the Huzurabad Assembly by election is expected sometime soon. The Election Commission of India (ECI) is likely to announce the dates of the election by the first week of September.
