The families of the 4 accused in the Disha rape and murder case are in grief after their sons were killed in an encounter on the 6th of December.

The four accused, who were alleged of raping and murdering Disha, were killed in a police encounter during the early hours of the 6th of December.  The accused were identified as Mohammed Pasha, Jollu Shiva, Jollu Naveen and Chintakunta Chennakesavulu.

While the father of one of the culprits questioned the Telangana Police whether such treatment was justified to his son, one of the deceased’s wife asked the Police to kill her as well as she has nothing left.

Chintakunta Chennakesavulu’s wife said, “I was told nothing will happen to my husband and he would come back soon. Now I don’t know what to do. Please take me to the place where my husband was killed and kill me also.”

Mohammad Pasha’s mother, who was shocked to hear about her son’s demise, could only say her son is no more.  Jollu Ramappa, the father of Jollu Shiva, expressed disappointment with the Telangana Police and said, “Many people committed rapes and murders. But they were not killed in this manner. Why were they not meted out such treatment?”

All the four accused in the Disha rape and murder case were illiterates, hailed from a poor background and worked as truck drivers in Hyderabad.  According to a resident of Makthal, despite hailing from a poor background, all the four accused were earning well and spent a large part of their money on alcohol.  The source also said, “Parents couldn’t control them as they were uneducated. But they were earning well and there was no accountability. They indulged in alcohol consumption from a young age.”

The families addressed the media and said if the Court had sentenced the four culprits to death, they would have accepted it, but killing their children even before the trial began is questionable.

V.C. Sajjanar, the Commissioner of Cyberabad Police, shot the four accused while they were trying to escape.  The incident took place at 6:30 A.M., after a 45 minute encounter at the same place where the accused raped and burnt Disha alive.

The National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) took a suo moto case against the Telangana Police for the extrajudicial killings and formed an investigation team for the same.

An investigation is underway to determine whether the step taken by the Telangana Police was necessary.

Stay tuned for further updates.
