The Election Commission of India (ECI) on the 9th of November, Tuesday announced the schedule for biennial elections for the Members of the Legislative Council (MLC) seats.

The schedule has been released for 11 Legislative Council seats from eight Local Authorities’ constituencies in Andhra Pradesh. According to the ECI issued release, the MLC seats under the local bodies authority would be held on the 10th of December.

The 11 seats are from Anantapur Local Authorities, East Godavari, Vizianagaram, Chittoor and Prakasam local authorities, and two seats each in Krishna, and Visakhapatnam local authorities.

As per the EC, notifications for the biennial polls would be issued on the 16th of November, which is also the starting date of nomination filing. The last date to file the nomination for the election would be the 23rd of November.

The scrutiny of nominations would be done on the 24th of November and the last date for withdrawal of candidatures is the 26th of November.

The polling on the 10th of December would begin from 8:00 A.M., and would continue till 4:00 P.M.

The EC release also read, “The Commission having re-assessed COVID-19 pandemic situation in the State of Andhra Pradesh and after taking into consideration all relevant facts, has now decided to conduct biennial election to the Andhra Pradesh Legislative Council.”

The EC release further added, “The Chief Secretary, Andhra Pradesh is being directed to depute a senior officer from the State to ensure that the extant instructions regarding COVID-19 containment measures are complied with while making arrangements for conducting the election.”

The results of the 11 Legislative Council Election would be announced on the 14th of December.

Telangana:

The Election Commission of India (ECI) also released the schedule for MLC election from nine local authorities’ constituencies for 12 MLC seats in Telangana.

The election for 12 MLC seats in Telangana is scheduled to be held on the 10th of December.

As per the EC, notifications for the biennial polls would be issued on the 16th of November, which is also the starting date of nomination filing. The last date to file the nomination for the election would be the 23rd of November.

The scrutiny of nominations would be done on the 24th of November and the last date for withdrawal of candidatures is the 26th of November.

The polling on the 10th of December would begin from 8:00 A.M., and would continue till 4:00 P.M.

The election was necessitated after the tenure of MLCs belonging to the Telangana Rashtra Samiti (TRS) came to an end in June.

The results of the 12 Legislative Council Election seats would be announced on the 14th of December.
