On the 9th of November, Tuesday, the K. Chandrashekar Rao Government released Rs. 75 crores for the Sammakka Saralamma Jatara in Medaram.

The four day Sammakka Saralamma jatara is a mega religious congregation of adivasis, scheduled to be held at Medaram village in Telangana. The event marks the fight of Sammakka- Saralamma, a duo of mother-daughter who fought against the unjust law of their ruler Pratapudra of the Kakatiyas.

According to the history of Medaram Jatara, Prataparudra imposed taxes on the Koya Tribe and when they were unable to pay the taxes, the Kakatiya ruler called for a war. In the war Sammakka’s husband and the Koya tribal Chief died, following which she along with her daughter entered the battle ground. However, after almost winning the war against the ruler, Sammakka and Saralamma died and the battle ground where they died was known as the land to celebrate the festival.

The event has been declared as a State festival by the Telangana Government and celebrated every two year. To celebrate the event, the State Government releases funds and organises the event on a grand note.

In 2020, the event was held as a mega fair, with a total of 1.5 crore people, including tribals, devotees and people from other regions of Andhra Pradesh and Telangana.

Again, for 2022 Medaram Jathara event, the Telangana Government released Rs. 75 crores. Reacting to the Telangana Government release of fund, Mr. Errabelli Dayakar Rao, the Panchayat Raj Minister of Telangana, extended gratitude to Mr. K. Chandrashekar Rao, the Chief Minister of Telangana. He said the Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) Government released the money for the organisation of the event. The famous event Sammakka Saralamma Jatara in Medaram is scheduled to be held from February 16th 2022 to February 19th 2022. In 2022, the TRS Government is planning to conduct the annual event on a grand note and release the amount of Rs. 75 crores for the same.

A total of 21 departments are supervising the arrangements of the event.

The TRS Government released the huge amount, after Ms. Seethakka, the Member of the Legislative Assembly (MLA) of Mulugu urged the Government to release the money. She said that Rs. 111 crores is estimated to take up various works for organising the event.
