Police Commissioner Sandeep Shandilya on Wednesday at a press conference said that from 2017 Cyberabad police will write down a FIR in 30 minutes after the victim lodges a complaint.

The crime rate has been on a steady rise in the city. The commissioner said that the number of rape cases has increased from 104 in 2015 to 119 in 2016. also, robbery cases registered were 159 in 2016, while compared to 59 in 2015. The police also said that there has been a slight decrease in murder cases from 110 to 104 in 2016. Also despite an increase in crime, the number of cases reported has reduced from 3,058 to 2513 in which only 1369 cases were detected.

The commissioner also said, “I agree that we need to focus more on crime detection and prevention of crime.Most of the force is pre-occupied with various events, so the detection is low. Next year my focus will be mainly on improving the conviction, professionalizing of policing, issuing of FIR to complainant without any delay.” He added that “The overall conviction rate is about 40% and in murder cases, it is just 25%.”

According to the Cyberabad commissioner, Kukkatpally is going to be the main area of concentration, as there has been a steady rise in chain snatchers and robberies. To make it easier for lodging a complaint, the police stations will go digital through which individuals can lodge a complaint on the website.
