G. Vivek, a former member of the Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS,) on the 23rd of July, met Amit Shah, the Home Minister of India.

Vivek, who is the Chief of the Prajaswamika Telangana, met Amit Shah to discuss the construction of the new Secretariat in Telangana. He urged Amit Shah to direct E.S.L. Narasimhan, the Governor of Telangana, to protect the old buildings which the TRS Government wants to demolish to construct new Secretariat and Assembly buildings.

Vivek said under Section 8 of the AP Reorganisation Act, the buildings belong to the AP Government, which the TRS Government is using to construct new Secretariat buildings in Telangana.

Highlighting the fact that in 1981 (when Telangana and Andhra Pradesh were a single state,) the State Government declared the Erum Manzil under archaeological sites. However, to fulfil their purpose, the TRS Government removed Erum Manzil from the heritage list and wants to demolish it to construct new buildings.

Although the State Assembly is stretched over 10 lakh square feet, which is more than enough for the needs of approximately 294 Members of the Legislative Assembly (MLAs,) the TRS wants more.

Vivek highlighted all the facts and urged the Home Minister to stop the demolition of Erum Manzil and protect the heritage buildings of Telangana.
