The State Election Commission (SEC,) on the 2nd of December, released the final voting percentage for the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) elections.

The final polling percentage announced on the evening of the 2nd of December reported the voter turnout at 46.55 %.

Though the voting percentage is low, it is higher than 2016 GHMC elections. The City registered 45.29 % in the 2016 GHMC elections.

Initially, the polling percentage was below 40 %, which raised several heated arguments and blame games amongst the major political parties contesting the GHMC elections.

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) blamed the ruling Government, the Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) and the State Election Commission (SEC) for low voter turnout.

The Union Minister of State for Home Affairs G. Kishan Reddy said the TRS connived with the SEC to bring down the voter turnout to work to its advantage.

The Indian National Congress (INC) also joined the allegation game by blaming the SEC, the TRS, the BJP and the All India Majlis e Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM) for low voting percentage.

Ponnam Prabhakar, the Working President of the Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee (TPCC) alleged the opposition parties.

The highest polling percentage was recorded in the Ramachandrapuram and Patancheru Circle with 65.09 % while the lowest was in the Malakpet circle at 33.74 %.

However, the final voting percentage may witness a slight difference as the Old Malakpet constituency is conducting re polling for the GHMC elections.

The re polling in ward no. 26 started at 7:00 A.M., on the 3rd of December and would continue till 6:00 P.M.

The results of the GHMC elections would be announced on the 4th of December.

Stay tuned for further updates.
