On the 23rd of October, the GHMC authorities listed out 350 hospitals which are illegal and violating safety norms.

Viswajait Kampati, the Director of the Enforcement Vigilance and Disaster Management (EVDM) wing of the GHMC, said the GHMC authorities would conduct safety assessments at hospitals.  According to the GHMC, there are 1,500 hospitals under the radar of the civic body and the safety assessment would be conducted in the next 3 days.

Mr. Kampati said, “Even government hospitals will not be spared.”  Viswajit Kampati also added the EVDM authorities planned to inspect pubs and bars, schools and coaching centres and hospitals.  He said, “In the first phase, we cracked down on pubs and bars and in phase II, schools and coaching centres were covered. Before we could launch inspection in hospitals, the incident happened.”

The decision to conduct searches came after a fire incident at Shine Children’s Hospital in Hyderabad killed a 4 month old baby and injured 4 children.  On the 22nd of October, a fire broke out on the premises of the hospital, killing the 4 month old baby and injuring 4 kids. According to sources, the construction of the hospital was not as per the required safety norms, which led to the fire.

K.T. Rama Rao, the Municipal Administration and Urban Development Minister and the Information Technology, Electronics and Communications Minister of Telangana, ordered the EVDM to look into the matter and inspect hospitals.

In the upcoming 3 days, the GHMC authorities would inspect the majority of dispensaries and hospitals in Hyderabad, including government hospitals.
