Boddupally Anusha, a 16 year old girl was to be married off to a distant relative on the 4th of May. The Balala Hakkila Sangham (BHK), Childline officials and the police came to the girls rescue on 29th April.

After her rescue, the girl took the Telangana Secondary School Certificate Examinations in which she scored a whopping 7.2 GPA. The girl has been offered admission into a college after the college was impressed by her score and story.

The girl’s mother is a housemaid and was unable to care for her daughter and decided that marrying her would relieve her of that burden.

“The girl’s father passed away long ago, and the mother was finding it tough to take care of her. They had faked her Aadhar card, to pass off the marriage as a legal one,” Achuyut Rao from BHK told The News Minute. He also added, “However, we checked her hall ticket and it said that she was born in 2000.”

Anusha was sent to a girls home where she is living at present. After the incident, the mother and relatives of the girl are being counselled on their inappropriate actions. Anusha hopes to continue her education and become a doctor in the future.

A similar story came to light last month when two teenage girls from Hyderabad had become victims of child marriage topped their college exams.

An NGO rescued the two girls in 2016, K Sandhya scored 93% making her the college topper and V Sandhya scored 92% coming in second.

The two girls are childhood friends and are making the most of their new found freedom.
