A Hyderabad based advocate Khaja Aijazuddin, on the 12th of December, filed a petition against the approval of Numaish, an annual event of Hyderabad.

He filed a petition asking the Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) Government to cancel the grand fair, “Numaish.” The petition was filed in the wake of the rising number of Omicron, the new variant of the Wuhan virus (COVID-19) cases in India.

Initially, the TRS Government and authority approved to allow Numaish 2022, after the cases of COVID-19 were under control in Telangana. However, after South Africa reported the Omicron variant, which is now spreading fast in India, the new variant raised concern amongst people.

Advocate Mr. Khaja Aijazuddin filed the petition to various instrumentalities of the governance including, TRS Government, The Secretary, Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, Chief Secretary, the District Collector of Hyderabad, the Director of the Public Health and Family Welfare and the Police commissioner Hyderabad. In his petition, he said, the guidelines which are still in force allows thousands of gathering, following COVID-19 protocols, which could be a major source of Omicron/COVID-19 rise.

The Police Commissioner of Hyderabad, the health department and other Government departments shall not accord any approval to the Exhibition Society for conduct of numaish/exhibition January 1,2022. Since footfall on a daily basis would be almost more than 45000 visitors. He also cited the warning of the World Health Organization (WHO) and the Union Government, which alerted states to be cautious against the new variant, which has been listed as the “Variant of Concern.”

Meanwhile, if the annual event of Hyderabad, the All India Industrial Exhibition (Numaish) is organized, it would likely witness a footfall of more than 40,000 people in a day. In addition, if canceled, it would be the second consecutive year without the Numaish Exhibition in Nampally, Hyderabad.
