The Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) is all set to raze Deccan Mall in Hyderabad, on the 21st of January, Saturday.
The decision to demolish the mall came after the mall caught fire recently, on the 20th of January. However, after repeated attempts by the fire officials and police, they were not able to douse the fire, as the entire mall is engulfed in fire. The mall is located on Minister Road, Nallagutta region.
Another major reason behind the decision to the demolition of the building as it was constructed without all the necessary permits and structural deviations and additional floors.
It is to be noted, at least 8,000 to 9,000 illegal constructions are coming up every year in GHMC limits while applications for building permits average 12,000 to 13,000 annually. The planning department permits only 4,000 structures. The Deccan Mall sports building was said to be one of illegal construction, without proper permits.
Furthermore, the GHMC has given the demolition contract to Malik Trading Demolishing Company. The company would complete the demolition process in the next three days.
