The Indian National Congress (INC,) on the 24th of September, nominated Nalamada Padmavathi Reddy, a member of the INC as the Member of the Legislative Assembly (MLA) candidate in Huzurnagar.
The Huzurnagar Assembly constituency in Nalgonda district will conduct its bypoll on the 21st of October. The reason behind nominating Padmavathi Reddy, the wife of Uttam Kumar Reddy is said to be the confidence in Uttam Kumar Reddy, the MLA candidate who won the seat from Huzurnagar. However, after winning the Member of Parliament (MP) seat in 2019 in Lok Sabha elections, he resigned from the MLA position, leading to the bypoll in the constituency.
Mukul Wasnik, the National Secretary General of the All India Congress Committee (AICC) released an official notice regarding the same.
Ms. Reddy served as a former MLA of Kodad in 2014. However, in 2018 Telangana Assembly elections she again contested from the Kodad constituency and lost to the Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) candidate.
The 30th of September is the last date to file the nomination papers to contest the Huzurnagar bypoll.
While the TRS and the INC announced their candidates for the Huzurnagar bypoll, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is yet to reveal the name of its candidate.
The Huzurnagar byelection is scheduled to be held on the 21st of October whereas the results will be announced on the 24th of October.
