KTR Chairs Meeting On Development Of Food Processing Industry

K.T. Rama Rao, the Information Technology, Electronics and Communications Minister of Telangana, on the 12th of August, conducted a meeting regarding food policies. 

Mr. Rao during the meeting emphasised on the need for a food processing policy and a logistics policy to promote the food processing industries in the State.

The meeting also discussed the necessity of these changes in the food industry to ensure financial empowerment of farmers.

Mr. Rao said the policies which are likely to be soon implemented were examined by the council of Ministers.

The State Government would also offer incentives and also proposed to offer subsidies and incentives to develop the food processing industry in Telangana.

Speaking on the occasion, Mr. Rama Rao said, “With the construction of new irrigation projects and subsequently increased cultivation area, the production of crops especially paddy, cotton, maize, pulses and spices has increased significantly after the State formation.”

The Minister stated that due to implementation of the sheep and fish distribution schemes, the State witnessed an increase in the number of meat and production of fish. The State also is experiencing water revolution and would soon achieve goals of Green Revolution (agriculture,) Blue Revolution (fisheries,) Pink Revolution (meat production) and White Revolution (milk.)

Mr. Rao concluded the meeting and said, “Though the State was witnessing an increase in crop production, we do not have the capacity to fully process them. There is an urgent need to promote (the) food processing industry.” he said.

The meeting was held at Pragati Bhavan, Hyderabad, Telangana.

Telangana ministers like S. Niranjan Reddy, Talasani Srinivas Yadav, Errabelli Dayakar Rao, Koppula Eeshwar and Satyavathi Rathod attended the meeting.

Besides these ministers, B. Vinod Kimar, the Vice Chairman of the Telangana State Planning Board, Rajiv Sharma, the Chief Advisor of the State Government, the Telangana State Chief Secretary Somesh Kumar, principal secretaries and senior officials of other departments also attended the meeting.
