K.T. Rama Rao, the Municipal Administration and Urban Development Minister of Telangana, extended financial assistance to the family of Aishwarya Reddy.
In 2020 November, a resident of Shadnagar, Telangana, Aishwarya Reddy committed suicide after she was unable to continue her online education due to financial crisis. Aishwarya Reddy was a student of Lady Shri Ram College and took her life after she was unable to bear her education expenses
In 2020, ahead of the nationwide lockdown, she returned home. When online classes started, she failed to attend classes as she did not have a laptop and internet connectivity.
Speaking about her academic performance, Aishwarya Reddy had good grades in school and colleges. In order to continue her studies at LSR, Delhi, Aishwarya’s parents took out a loan for education. According to her parents, she even got the INSPIRE scholarship under the Ministry of Science and Technology, the Students’ Federation of India (SFI,) but never received the scholarship amount for the second year.
Almost a year later, K.T. Rama Rao was informed about the incident, following which KTR met the family member of Aishwarya and extended Rs. 2.5 lakh financial assistance. The step was taken by the Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) Government on humanitarian grounds.
In addition to the financial assistance, the Telangana Minister also assured a double bedroom house to the family under the 2 BHK Dignity Housing Scheme.
K.T. Rama Rao expressed condolences to the family for the loss of their daughter and assured future support to the family.
