Mr. K.T. Rama Rao, the Information Technology and Urban Development Minister of Telangana, questioned the Central Government’s move to sell the lands allotted by the State Government, along with the Public Sector Undertakings (PSUs).

On the 20th of June, Monday, the Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) leader wrote to the Union Finance Minister Ms. Nirmala Sitharaman and appealed to reconsider the decision of selling the PSU and government lands.  He said, the K. Chandrashekar Rao led Telangana Government would “strongly obstruct the moves” aiming to sell assets, including land allotted to different PSUs, in Telangana.

Mr. K.T. Rama Rao sai, “If it is not feasible then the state government should be given an opportunity to set up new industrial units on such lands.”  He further said that the Central Government’s plans to sell PSUs are nothing but making a mockery of the state government’s rights.

Meanwhile, Mr. K.T. Rama Rao, in a strong oppose questioned the decision and said, if reopened by the state governments, the PSUs would provide direct employment to thousands and indirectly millions would be benefited.  However, the Central Government is focused in withdrawing investment to facilitate the sale of the companies, said KTR.

Highlighting such PSUs for sale, KTR said, Hindustan Cables Ltd, Hindustan Fluorocarbons Ltd, Indian Drugs and Pharmaceuticals Ltd, HMT, Cement Corporation of India Ltd (CCI) and Ordinance factories are for sale in Telangana as part of its disinvestment plans. The state government had allotted about 7,200 acres of land to these six companies, with a value of approximately Rs 5,000 crore, whereas the market value of these lands are close to over Rs. 40,000 crores

Mr. K.T. Rama Rao asked, “In this context, how can the Central government sell the lands that were allotted by the state government for setting up PSUs.”
