The Tank Bund’s Sunday Funday event organised by the Telangana Government received a legal notice against the fireworks at the venue.
On the 16th of October, a day ahead of the event, Mr. B.V. Seshagiri, an advocate working with the Hyderabad Clean Air Network, issued the notice. According to the issued notice, the fireworks being carried out during the Sunday Funday event is polluting the air, reducing the air quality index of the City.
The legal notice was sent to the Municipal Administration and Urban Development Department, the Hyderabad Metropolitan Development Authority Department and the Telangana State Pollution Control Board (TSPCB.)
Mr. B.V. Seshagiri said that it is the duty of the TSPCB to monitor the pollution in Telangana and ensure it is kept under control. However, with every week fireworks could be the cause of air pollution if continued further. Therefore, he asked the Telangana Government and the concerned authorities to desist from bursting crackers and avoid causing air pollution.
This is not the first time the Hyderabad Clean Air Network’s Advocate Mr. Seshahigiri issued a notice. Recently, the advocate issued a warning notice to all the three Government departments urging the same. He also said, if the TRS run departments fail to avoid fireworks, they would take a legal action and would file a public interest litigation (PIL) against the use of firecrackers, which are not only affecting human life but also aqua life of the Hussain Sagar.
The Sunday Funday event is being organised by the Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) Government near Hussain Sagar Lake of Tank Bund, Hyderabad, every Sunday. The concept of Sunday Funday is to let the citizens of Hyderabad enjoy the public space without the hustle of traffic at the major public spot, Tank Bund. The State Government and the State Police organise several fun events and activities for people. The event usually begins at 3:00 P.M., and continues till 10:00 P.M. During this 8 hour duration, movement of vehicles is prohibited in the area. The idea of a traffic free Tank Bund has been in effect since the 29th of August.
