The Medigadda, Annaram and Sundilla barrages are important parts of Telangana’s irrigation system. Their restoration has remained a key issue, with the State government focusing on safety and repair plans.
Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy has now directed officials to begin restoration work on the three barrages in December. He held a review meeting with Ministers and Irrigation Department officials on Thursday to discuss the plans.
The government has prepared restoration proposals worth around ₹4,193 crore. Officials said national-level experts and Central government institutions had assessed the condition of all three barrages. A Central government expert committee has also given initial approval to the repair plans.
CM Revanth Reddy stressed that the work must follow the recommendations of Central agencies and dam safety experts. He also asked officials to secure final approvals by the end of November.
The proposals state that construction companies will bear the cost of repairs linked to structural defects, while the government will fund additional works.
