The President of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Telangana unit Mr. Bandi Sanjay Kumar postponed his padayatra, named as the Praja Sangrama Yatra in Telangana.
The reason behind the rescheduling of the padayatra is the demise of Mr. Kalyan Singh, the former Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh. On the night of the 21st of August, Mr. Kalyan Singh took his last breath, following which, three days of mourning was announced by the National BJP unit.
On the 22nd of August, Mr. Bandi Sanjay Kumar expressed condolences to the family of Mr. Kalyan Singh and announced the cancellation/postponement of all BJP activities and events in Telangana for the next three days. With this, the scheduled 40 days’ padayatra (Praja Sangrama Yatra) of the Telangana unit BJP President has now been scheduled after the 25th of August. This is the second time the padayatra has been postponed. Initially it was set to begin from the 9th of August, but due to the Monsoon Parliament Session, it was postponed to the 24th of August. However, due to the demise of the former Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister, the yatra once again postponed to either the 26th of August or the 28th of August.
Currently, the Telangana BJP unit is mulling over two dates, either the padayatra would begin on the 26th of August or the 28th of August. The final date is expected to be announced soon after a Party meeting.
The Praja Sangrama Yatra would continue till the next Parliament session in a phased manner. In the first phase, Mr. Bandi Sanjay Kumar would conduct Praja Sangrama Yatra (padayatra) for 40 days. The scheduled padayatra is set to begin from Bhagyalakshmi Temple at Charminar with 50,000 BJP cadres.
