The internal dispute between the Telangana Government and the State Governor is intensifying with the recent Budget Session approval matter.
The Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) led Telangana Government proposed to conduct the State Budget Session from the 3rd of February, and submitted a proposal to Ms. Tamilisai Soundararajan, the Governor of Telangana, for approval. The proposal was sent to the State Governor as per rules, on the 29th of January, which was pending for her nod.
According to sources, Ms. Tamilisai Soundararajan gave her approval for the 2023 Telangana Budget Session, in the late hours of the 30th of January, Monday. The developments came after the K. Chandrashekar Rao led BRS Government moved the Telangana High Court, seeking intervention into the pending approval for the budget session from the State Governor.
On the 30th of January, Monday, the BRS Government moved a lunch motion in the High Court. The motion was reviewed by the HC bench comprising of Chief Justice Ujjal Bhuyan and Justice N. Tukaramji. During the hearing, the Court asked the Government why they want to drag the judiciary into this when the Governor of the State was amenable. Responding to this, Mr. Dushyant Dave, the advocate of the State Government said, it is not their intention to come to the court and file a petition against the Governor but the Governor is the constitutional head of the State and the State Government needs the Governor’s Consent to pass the present Budget session. He further added that Ms. Tamilisai Soundararajan could not hold the budget proposals just for the sake of inadvertent issues.
However, the BRS Government withdrew the motion filed against the State Governor after lunch, as Ms. Tamilisai Soundararajan approved the 2023 Telangana Budget Session.
The 2023 Telangana Budget Session would begin with the joint sitting address of the State Governor. This would be the first time since 2019 that Ms. Tamilisai Soundararajan would address the Assembly session joint sitting.
Meanwhile, the Telangana State Assembly Budget Session is scheduled to begin from the 3rd of February.
