In the view of heavy rains in Telangana, the Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao convened a high level meeting at Pragati Bhavan.

The meeting started at 3:00 P.M., with the presence of concerned officials and ministers.

KCR chaired the meeting and reviewed the rain cause situation in Hyderabad and other districts.

This is the first time since 1903, Telangana witnessed such heavy rainfall of nearly 324.50 mm.

During the meeting, Mr. Rao said the State Government estimated a loss of Rs. 5,000 crores, which  includes crops and properties.  As many as 35 people died due to rain related incidents in the past 2  days.  The State Government would  be sending the review report with all the details to the Central Government and would seek help for the relief measures.

The Telangana Government need to provide details to the centre about the damage caused to the State due to rains and officials concerned were asked to attend the meeting with all the details.

The current situation in Hyderabad after rains, relief measures that have been taken up and other things that should be taken up was mentioned in the report which would be sent to the Central Government.

In addition, the Telangana Government released an amount of Rs. 5 crores to the GHMC authority and asked to speed up the relief measures.  The CM also announced an ex gratia of Rs. 5 lakhs to the family of people who died in the rain related accidents.

He also directed officials to distribute rice, pulses, blankets and other items to the houses of Telangana, affected due to rain.

He assured the people that new houses will be given to those whose houses had collapsed during the deluge and the Government will undertake repairs to partially damaged houses free of cost.

Mr. Rao made it clear that the new houses in alternative sites would be built for those whose houses are built on drains (nalas) in the city.   He directed the officers to pump out water from low-lying areas and cellars of apartment complexes and cautioned them not to restore power till the last drop of water was drained out as restoration of power supply in such areas could cause death.

KCR said, “It has been observed that many colonies that were submerged were built in the Full Tank Level (FTL) areas of tanks.  This had led to severe problems with water flooding the cellars of residential complexes.”

The meeting was attended by Ministers K.T. Rama Rao, Errabelli Dayakar Rao, Vemula Prashanth Reddy, ministers from Greater Hyderabad region Mahmood Ali, Talasani Srinivas Yadav, the Telangana Chief Secretary Somesh Kumar, SPDCL CMD Raghuma Reddy, principal secretaries of municipal, agriculture and Road and buildings departments, GHMC commissioner Lokesh Kumar and Hyderabad district collector.
