Telangana CM KCR Decides To Pass Resolution Against CAA-NPR

K. Chandrashekar Rao (KCR,) the Chief Minister of Telangana, on the 7th of March, conducted a Cabinet meeting and made a few key decisions.

During the Cabinet meeting, the ministers and Telangana CM decided to pass a resolution against the Citizenship Amendment Act [CAA,] 2019 and National Population Registry (NPR.)  On the 7th of March while delivering Motion of Thanks on Telangana Governor Tamilisai Soundararajan’s speech KCR said the State Government decided its stand on the CAA-NPR and would announce the same soon.

Mr. Rao said he would take up the CAA issue in the ongoing Budget session, which started on the 6th of March and would pass a resolution against it.   Mr. Rao said, “Let us pass the resolution on CAA and NPR to express views of people in the State to the Centre which will take final decision on the issue.”  

If the Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) Government passes a resolution against the CAA, it would be the 6th State to pass the resolution.   Previously, Kerala, Punjab, West Bengal, Rajasthan and Madhya Pradesh passed the resolution against CAA, respectively. 

Besides, CAA and NPR, the Cabinet also decided to table the 2020-2021 Budget of Telangana in the Budget sesion, on the 8th of March.

  1. Harish Rao, the Finance Minister of Telangana would table the 2020-2021 budget at 11:30 A.M., on the 8th of March.
  2. The Telangana Assembly Budget Session, which started on the 6th of March would continue till the 20th of March, discussing various issues in Telangana.
