The Telangana Election Commission is set to organise a special electoral enrolment drive in Hyderabad.
The Telangana Chief Electoral Officer Mr. Vikas Raj issued a notification in this regard on the evening of the 23rd of November. As per the notice, the special drive would be organised on the 26th and 27th of November and the 3rd and the 4th of December. With the help of this drive, those left out of voter’s list could approach. The CEO said as part of claims and objections, people can submit their applications in the prescribed form to be enrolled as voters. A person, whose name has been deleted from the electoral roll wrongfully, could file an appeal under Section 24 of the Representation of People’s Act, 1950 within the prescribed period of 15 days to the District Election Officer (DEO) or submit Form-6 any time during the summary revision exercise, he said.
The CEO convened a meeting with representatives of political parties and appraised them of the ongoing Special Summary Revision(SSR) of electoral rolls. Highlighting the drive, CEO Mr. Vikas Raj said, the block officers would be available at polling stations to help people and collect application forms for names in the voter’s list. He further stated that citizens who have attained 18 years can enrol themselves, and those who are above 17 years can also apply in advance.
Mr. Vikas Raj further asked the political parties in Telangana to appoint Booth Level Agents(BLA’s) from their side, who could be help in the drive. As of now, Telangana has 2,95,80,736 registered voters for the next elections.
The special drive came ahead of the Telangana Assembly elections, scheduled to be held in 2023.
