The Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) led Telangana Government is mulling providing fresh ration cards to the eligible underprivileged people in the State.
On the 9th of February, Mr. Gangula Kamalakar, the Backward Class (BC) Welfare and Civil Supplies Minister confirmed the same. He said that the State Government will consider providing fresh ration cards to the poor soon. He further said that the K. Chandrashekar Rao led Telangana Government has recently issued 35 lakh ration cards in addition to 53 lakh ration cards, which were provided by the Central Government.
The 53 lakh provided ration cards were issued by the PM Narendra Modi led Central Government under the National Food Security Act (NFSA.)
With 53 lakh national ration cards and 35 lakh state ration cards, approximately 1.9 crore people and 95 lakh people would get benefits, respectively.
Under the ration cards, the Central Government supplies 5 kg of rice per person at Rs. 3 per kg. However, the State Government has subsidised it further and supplies 6 kg of rice per person at just Rs. 1 per kg for all the 95 lakh ration card holders in the Telugu State of Telangana.
