In support of the All India Motor Transport Congress (AIMTC) strike in Delhi, the Telangana Lorry Owners Association, on the 19th of September, observed a one day strike as well.

The AIMTC called for a one day strike against the Central Government for introducing the newly amended Motor Vehicles Act, 2019.

N. Bhaskar Reddy, the President of the Telangana Lorry Owners Association, confirmed the strike and said all the 2.7 lakh lorries in Telangana would be on strike.

Although the Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) Government did not implement the new Motor Vehicles Act, 2019 in the State, the Lorry Owners Association called for the day long strike.

The lorry owners ensured there would not be high damage as this is the off season for lorries.

According to the lorry owners, the supply of cement, sand and other products is quite less as of now, compared to the other seasons of the year.  So only 30 to 40 % lorries are being used, whereas 60 to 70 % lorries are on strike.

There are a total of 2.7 lakh lorries in Telangana.

According to sources, the lorry drivers also put forward their long standing demands, such as a single permit system in Andhra Pradesh and Telangana.

Mr. Reddy said since Telangana and Andhra Pradesh share a good relation, the Government should consider the demand and fulfil it.

The strike started around 6:00 A.M., and will continue till 10:00 P.M., on the 19th of September.
