The political dynamic of Telangana is likely to change after suspended leader of the ruling Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) Ponguleti Srinivas Reddy and Jupally Krishna Rao would join the Indian National Congress.
According to sources, the two strong leaders of the BRS would join the opposition ahead of the State Assembly elections. The resurgent Congress has certainly scored another win with the final confirmation of the Ponguleti-Jupally duo joining the party on the 12th of June, Monday.
A senior leader of the Indian National Congress, who wished to be anonymous said, “The deal is done. We have discussed all issues, including the various posts, positions and tickets to be given to their key followers and camp members. This will give the Congress a huge fillip in the erstwhile Khammam and Mahbubnagar districts, besides furthering the narrative that the tailwinds are behind it in Telangana. All talk of a tri-cornered fight has vanished, it is now a straight fight between the Congress and the BRS, and, given the anti-incumbency, we will win and form government.” In addition, the source said, “Many leaders from both the BJP and the BRS are in touch and several of them will join the Congress in the coming days.”
The major changes are unfolding at a time when the State is set to hold a State Assembly elections, in December 2023.
The major parties in the fray are, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP,) the Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) and the INC. Furthermore, this time, the Nara Chandrababu led Telugu Desam Party (TDP) is also eyeing to contest a majority of seats in the Telugu State of Telangana.
