The students of the Rajiv Gandhi University of Knowledge and Technologies (RGUKT) continued their protest against the college administration, on the second consecutive day, the 15th of June, Wednesday.

The students intensified their protest with the support of students from RGUKT, also known as IIIT Basara, in Basara town, Nirmal district.  The protest was carried out at the main gate of the IIIT Basara, against the poor quality food at the hostel, water and lack of basic amenities on the premises.

In total, the students put forward a list of 12 demands, including the appointment of a permanent vice-chancellor at the RGUKT, Telangana.

In addition, the students also urged Mr. K. Chandrasekhar Rao, the Chief Minister of Telangana, and Mr. K. T. Rama Rao, the Minister of Information Technology, to come to the campus and look into their difficulties.   A student leader at the RGUKT said, “We don’t even have a proper drinking water facility.  Though this was brought to the notice of the authorities many times, no action was taken.”

Meanwhile, to control the situation and maintain peace and order, the district police have undertaken extensive security arrangements, alerting police to prevent pupils from leaving the building.

In addition, Ms. Sabitha Indra Reddy, the Telangana Education Minister, on the 15th of June, called a meeting with the vice-chancellor and promised to resolve the problems.

The intervention of Ms. Sabitha Indra Reddy came after Mr. K. T. Rama Rao tweeted that he would bring the matter to the attention of the education minister.
