The Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) Government is set to inaugurate 8 medical colleges in the State, on the 15th of November.
This was the first time the State Government would inaugurate eight medical colleges. For the establishment of the state-run government colleges, the K. Chandrashekar Rao-led TRS now known as the Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) released Rs. 4,080 crores. For each medical college, the Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) Government spent Rs. 510 crores each.
The eight new colleges would be inaugurated in Sangareddy, Mahabubabad, Mancherial, Jagtial, Wanaparthy, Kothagudem, Nagarkurnool, and Ramagundam, which would offer 1,200 medical seats for the 2022-2023 academic year to MBBS students.
The State Health Department has tentatively scheduled to inaugurate the colleges, which will provide 1,200 additional MBBS seats, starting operation on the 15th of November. Apart from the 1,200 MBBS seats, another 1,068 seats from private medical colleges would also be available to students this academic year after the State government’s decision to reserve 85% of B-category medical seats in private medical colleges for students from Telangana.
Mr. T. Harish Rao, the Health Minister of Telangana, on the 7th of November, announced the same and said, the KCR-led Telangana Government established 8 medical colleges without any kind of financial help from the Centre.
It is to be noted, in 2014, Telangana had a total of 850 medical seats and by 2022, the number has increased to 2,901.
