The Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) is all set to protest against the Central Government, on the 20th of December.

The long pending paddy procurement issue between the TRS and the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) led Central Government has been intensified. After being disappointed with the Central Government, Mr. K. Chandrashekar Rao, the Chief Minister of Telangana, called for the protest in Delhi.

Meanwhile, on the 19th of December, Erraballi Dayakar Rao, the Panchayat Raj Minister, held a conference and asked the TRS Cadres to make the protest a massive success. He said, “The protests should be held in every village as per the call given by Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao.” He further said, “Farmers should participate in the protests and sound the ‘Chavu Dappu’ in every village.”

In Delhi also, a delegation of ministers and Members of Parliament (MPs) are camping in New Delhi to meet the Union ministers. The main purpose of the meeting would be seeking a written assurance from the Centre on paddy procurement from this year’s monsoon season crop.

Besides, the Telangana Lorry Owners’ Association has decided to support the protest to be taken up by the TRS demanding the Centre to procure entire paddy from the State. The association leadership, led by its president Mr. M. Rajender Reddy, met the Excise Minister of Telangana, Mr. Srinivas Goud and handed over a memorandum. In the memorandum, Mr. Reddy said the lorry owners and cleaners would get livelihood by transporting foodgrains to FCI godowns from farmers. The lorry owners would suffer to a great extent if the Centre stops procuring paddy from the State. Thousands would have to lose their employment; hence the association has decided to support the protest.

Meanwhile, the Central Government and BJP leaders condemned the protest called by Mr. K. Chandrashekar Rao and criticised him.
