Gearing up for the Huzurabad by elections, the Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) decided to begin public meetings in the Huzurabad constituency.

The TRS Government under the leadership of K. Chandrashekar Rao, decided to launch ‘Telangana Dalit Bandhu’ welfare scheme.  The State Government decided to launch the scheme from Huzurabad Assembly constituency, which is due for by election, after the resignation of Eatala Rajender as the Member of the Legislative Assembly (MLA.)

On the 18th of July, KCR, the Chief Minister of Telangana, announced the scheme to empower Dalits in Telangana.  The decision was taken unanimously during a review meeting held at Pragati Bhavan, on Sunday.

Mr. K. Chandrashekar Rao said, “The purpose of Dalit Bandhu scheme is to improve their socio-economic status.”  He further said, “This mistrust should end and confidence should be instilled among them that the State Government was working for their cause with commitment.  Discrimination in the name of caste, gender and other factors and keeping talented people away from the manufacturing sector is detrimental not only to the individual, family and society but also to the nation.”

Under the Dalit Bandhu Scheme (Dalit Empowerment Program) the KCR Government would provide financial assistance to Dalit families.  In regard to this, the Telangana Government planned to release Rs. 1,000 crores.  The Chandrashekar Rao Government would provide Rs. 10 lakh financial assistance directly to the bank accounts of Dalit beneficiaries under the Chief Minister Dalit Empowerment Programme.  The eligible families selected as beneficiaries from 119 Assembly constituencies would receive the money to make them financially self sufficient.  In total, approximately 11,900 Dalit families would receive Rs. 10 lakhs each.

According to the Telangana Chief Minister’s office (CMO) the financial assistance would be released in a phased manner.  In the first phase, the assistance would be given to 100 families selected from each of the 119 Assembly Constituencies.

The pilot project would be kickstarted from Huzurabad area of Karimnagar district.  The Chief Minister’s Office (CMO) clarified the reason to select Huzurabad of the erstwhile Karimnagar and said, KCR started many welfare schemes from Karimnagar, and Telangana Statehood agitation was also started from Karimnagar, making it an important district for the TRS.

The date of the new Dalit Bandhu scheme launch in Huzurabad is yet to be announced.

Stay tuned for further updates.
