L. Ramana, the Telugu Desam Party (TDP) President of Telangana Unit is likely to join the Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS.)

L. Ramana, who has been working as the TDP President in Telangana since 2014 was offered a Member of the Legislative Council (MLC) seat, following which he is expected to quit the Party. Senior leaders of the Party like Sanjay Kumar and E. Dayakar Rao, the Panchayat Raj Minister of Telangana, met with L. Ramana regarding his entry into the TRS.

The emphasis of the TRS leaders on L. Ramana to join the Party is said to be the impact of the resignation of Eatala Rajender, the former Health Minister of Telangana.

Recently, Eatala Rajender resigned from the Party and expected to join the opposition Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Telangana unit.

According to sources, the efforts of including L.Ramana and elevating him as a MLC is said to be a calculated political move. With this, the TRS leadership wants to pacify Backward Classes (BCs) and send a message that the TRS gives prominence to BCs and the sacking of Rajendar should not be viewed as an anti-BC stand by the TRS.

The joining of L. Ramana is said to be beneficial for the TRS, as he is considered a powerful leader from the Backward Classes.

Another major reason is Huzurabad by election. After resigning from the TRS and the Member of the Legislative Assembly (MLA,) Eatala Rajender is likely to contest for the Huzurabad Assembly constituency. However, this time he would be contesting as a BJP candidate.

After the resignation of Eatala Rajender, the MLA seat fell vacant, leading to a re election in the Assembly constituency.

L. Ramana has a strong hold in Karimnagar and on BCs, which would give a balanced equation to the TRS over the exit of Eatala Rajender.
