The Telangana High Court, on the 22nd of November, dismissed a petition filed against the Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) and approved the privatisation of bus routes.

Telangana State Road Transport Corporation (TSRTC) employees filed a petition against the State Government for privatising 5,100 bus routes in Telangana.  However, the Telangana HC dismissed the petition and said there is nothing wrong with the Government privatising 50 % of the TSRTC bus routes. The Court gave a green signal to the Cabinet’s decision.

After the Telangana HC gave its verdict, the TSRTC employees expect a meeting as K. Chandrashekar Rao, the Chief Minister of Telangana, previously said he would hold talks after the Telangana HC’s verdict.

Recently, the TSRTC Joint Action Committee (JAC) urged the State Government to take back the TSRTC employees as they are ready to drop all their demands and call off their strike.

However, the TRS Government did not respond to their request and said they would discuss the ongoing issue and take a decision after the Telangana HC gives its judgement.

Meanwhile, after repeatedly requesting the Government for a meeting and not getting a response, the TSRTC workers and leaders and JAC leaders decided to organise ‘Save RTC’ rallies across Telangana on the 23rd of November.

The TSRTC strike, which started on the 5th of October, entered its 50th day on the 23rd of November.

Stay tuned for further updates.
