4 Killed In Bear Attacks In Japan

Tokyo: As many as four people appeared to be killed by bear in a small area of northern Japan in three weeks. Kazuno Police Station spokesman Naboru Abukawa said all the four deceased had bites and scratches on their bodies presumably made by “a large animal.” The tree men and one woman were reportedly of 65-79 and were within a 2.5 km radius in Akita prefecture since May 20.

The spokesman added that the police heard roars of a bear or bears and saw bears from a helicopter while searching for the victims. Abukawa said the city of Kazuno had had no deaths from bear attacks in the last five years
