Demonetisation fails to defer ‘Dangal’s’ success!

Aamir Khan’s ”Dangal” that was released for Christmas received a tremendous response at the box-office. The movie also stars Fatima Shaikh, Sanya Malhotra and Sakshi Tanwar in lead roles. It is a biopic of Indian wrestler and Olympic coach Mahavir Singh Phogat. By the first weekend, it crossed Rs. 100 crores.

Many movies that opened after Demonetisation had the effects on collections because of the cash crunch and various factors. But the Demonetisation does not seem to have any effect on the collections on ”Dangal,” as it already crossed the Rs. 100 crore mark by the first weekend.

The movie received rave reviews from the critics and had massive opening on the first weekend and crossed Rs. 100 crore mark in two days of release.

”Dangal” earned Rs. 42.35 crores on Sunday, bringing the first weekend total to Rs. 106.95 crores. This is the biggest opening ever for a Aamir Khan movie. The Rs. 106.95 crores also include earnings of Tamil and Telugu versions of the movie. The movie was directed by Nitesh Tiwari and showed a growth of 21.63 percent rise. On Saturday the figures were at 34.82 crores INR. In North India, the movie broke the first weekend collection records till date. The highest collections were in east Punjab, owing to the setting of the movie in Haryana.

This is the fifth Aamir Khan movie to enter 100 crore club. The first four being “Ghajini,” “3 Idiots,” “Dhoom 3” and “PK.” The movie is opening for the second week on Monday, where the Christmas holiday factor won’t be present. But seeing that there are no big Bollywood releases this weekend, it is expected to rake in more collections.
